From a geological point of view Iglicioara deposit is included in the Western part of the Northern Dobrogean Massif, and from a morphological point of view in Pricopanului Massif.

The Northern Dobrogean Massif includes crystalline formations (mica-shale, quartzites, amphibolites of early Proterozoic age; phyllites, quartzites, volcanic tuff, metagraywacke of late Proterozoic age – early Paleozoic; quartzites, sericitous phyllites of early Paleozoic age ), phyllitous – calcareous shale and Silurian graphitous quartzites, freestones, Devonian stone; conglomerates and greywacke of early Carboniferous age; conglomerates, quartz freestones, limy shale, freestones and clays of Triassic age.

Magmatic rocks occupy large areas, being represented by granites, diorites and Paleozoic porphyries and Mesozoic diabases.

Loessoid formations of Quaternary age came to settle on top of the formations listed above.

Iglicioara deposit consists of an intrusion of quartz-porphyrites put in place in the late Carboniferous, not affected by faults

Exploitation is carried out based on Exploitation License no. 505 / 1999, approved by Government Decision no. 577 / 2000, published in the Official Journal no. 317 / 2000.
